Reading an install failure

Installs, then closes instantly on launch. Android version too old, or a repackaged build failing its own signature check. If the file did not come from the platform's own link, assume the second and delete it.

"Blocked by Play Protect". Expected for any package outside the Play Store and not by itself evidence of malware. It is also not evidence of safety. The thing that decides safety is where the file came from, which is why step 3 matters more than every other step combined.

Four checks that separate a genuine build from a repack

• Provenance. Downloaded from the platform's own signed-in download link, in this session, by you. Nothing else qualifies.
• Size sanity. A repack is often noticeably smaller because the real assets were stripped, or noticeably larger because something was added.
• Permissions. SMS, contacts or call log requested means stop and uninstall.

Updates, data and battery, realistically
